I write, and i hope to have something published one day. To do that though i actually have to get writing. i have so many good ideas floating around in my head but i just need to get writing. I always make the mistake of logging into Facebook and MSN, and that leads too me chatting to friends all night, or today's case. I have learnt to sign in and appear offline with MSN and the same with Facebook. I know a lot of people don't have any time for Facebook and i can understand why. i find that it offers a good distraction for when i am writing and get stuck. i find it helps just to have a little look through what is happening in the world and after five, ten minutes I'm back writing.
So not all distractions are bad and i have had rare times on MSN in particular where friends have needed someone to talk to so it has its benefits.
generally though i do need to stop logging into these as i know i will write without interruption. My train of thought doesn't get interrupted and i do get so much more completed. Its the same with having a TV or DVD on. If its something I've watched time and time again then it doesn't distract me at all and sometimes i need that little bit of background noise.
Music dosen't seem to be that helpful either. There is actually little music that i can listen to that doesn't distract me. When i go to work some mornings i will deliberately go in early and sit in my car for half an hour before work so i can write and i can never have the radio on as it always plays to much on my mind.
So I've found that i either have to stop logging into Facebook and MSN and work with something on in the background that i know wont distract me.

Family and Friends
Can we really choose who our family are? I think most people define family by blood and marriage, but why should we have such bordered views. A child that had been adopted could have the two best parents in the world who would do anything for that child. And a child who's parents are their natural parents could be the most heartless people in the world. I know this all cuts both ways, but its an example of choosing to have someone in our lives. We choose our friends and they choose us. We choose to spend our spare time with them as they are the people we want to. Don't take this as i don't get along with my family but i have so much more in common with my friends then most of my family.
With family we go through the normal routine of how we all are and get caught up with our lives but my friends i have true banter with. We can talk about anything from politics to pop music. We can have the greatest debates about the important things or we can be very immature and spend an afternoon doing stupid dares, lots of stupid dares. I can stand up in front of my fiends and sing karaoke very badly whereas i would never do that with my family. I'm not sure why i cant dop that in front of my family though
I define the important people in my life as those who i would drop anything for. Whether its halfway through a day at work or at four in the morning. if they need me i am only a phone call away. That is how i define my family. It does not matter if they share the same blood as me. I am sure the dictionary says family are those who share the same blood as you, or are family through marriage. But i choose who my family are, not my genetic makeup.
